Revel Atlantic City name change to Ten

The Revel Casino in Atlantic City will be renaming the resort to "Ten" and reopening it in the first quarter of 2017.  They had promised to have the hotel portion of Revel up and running by June 15, but had to scrap those plans because they had not yet received a certificate of occupancy for the property and because state casino regulators told them they had to apply for a casino license like all the other casino operators in town.

The new name could create some interesting wrinkles for gambling regulators and customers alike, including the prospect of having casino chips in the denominations of $1, $5, $25 and $100 stamped with the word “Ten” in their center.

Casino History
Revel opened on April 2nd of 2012, but struggled from the outset; it never turned a profit, went bankrupt twice, and shut down on September 2nd of 2014.  The casino cost $2.4 billion to build and sold in bankruptcy court in April of 2015 for $82 million to Glenn Straub, a Florida developer.

Horseshoe Cincinnati renamed Jack Cincinnati Casino

Jack Cincinnati Casino opened on June 8th after more than 40 hours of finishing touches to rebrand the former Horseshoe.  The region's dominant casino, which closed on June 6th, reopened under its new moniker. Workers spent hours switching out hundreds of old "Horseshoe" logos from slot machines, gambling tables, dice and internal signage. The name change was an elaborate process in part because slots, dice and cards must be inspected before they are put in play to meet regulatory standards.

Casino owner Dan Gilbert announced the brand name change early this year as his company moved into active management of his budding gambling empire. His gambling arm, Rock Gaming, also changed its name to Jack Entertainment earlier this year. The Detroit mogul is best known as the owner of Quicken Loans and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

They are also rebranding Horseshoe Casino Cleveland, ThistleDown Racino near Cleveland as well as Greektown Casino in Detroit

LV Club sold and closing soon

The Las Vegas Club, one of the city's oldest casino properties, has changed hands between downtown owners.  The 86-year-old sports-themed casino was sold by the Tamares Group, owners of the Plaza, to Derek and Greg Stevens, who own the D Las Vegas.

The Stevenses acquired the Fitzgerald in October 2011, invested $22 million in renovations and converted it to the D Las Vegas a year later.  They also own 60 percent of the Golden Gate, which is across Fremont Street from the Las Vegas Club

Plans are in place for the casino’s table games to close by Sunday night, and the full casino would cease operations by Wednesday, August 19th of 2015.  Las Vegas Club’s 410-room hotel has been closed for about two years.  There will be some demolition and renovation, but that will be several months down the line.  They did not purchase the casino name, so whatever eventually reopens at the corner of Main and Fremont streets will be called something else
