Golden Nugget Lake Charles opens on Dec 8, 2014

The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino Lake Charles, Louisiana opened on December 8th of 2014.  The casino features 70 table games, a poker room and 1,600 slot machines.  The 25-story hotel and casino features 740 luxury hotel rooms and suites; an 18-hole championship golf course; an 18,000-square-foot ballroom; 30,000 square feet of meeting space; and a number of Landry’s signature restaurants.

New issue Eastside Cannery $1 casino chip

The Eastside Cannery in Las Vegas, Nevada released a new $1 casino chip in November of 2014.  It is similar to their first issue chip they released at the grand opening on August 28th of 2008 except the new version uses a bolder black print, notably the "CASINO - HOTEL" text

History of Property
 This was originally the location of Nevada Palace which opened in July of 1979 and closed on February 28th of 2008

Seattle Seahawks poker chip card guard for sale

A custom design Seattle Seahawks poker chip that poker players use to secure their cards. New issue chips for The Linq

The Linq Hotel & Casino has released their own rack of chips on October 29th of 2014.  All Quad chips have been removed from play.

History of Property
It was the Flamingo Capri when Ralph Engelstad purchased the decaying property in 1971. He added buildings and a casino and reopened it a year later. In 1979, he renamed it the Imperial Palace.  Caesars acquired the Imperial Palace for $370 million in 2005.  After 33 years as the Imperial Palace it became The Quad Resort & Casino on December 20th of 2012.  As of October 30th of 2014 it is known as The Linq Hotel & Casino

Palace Station in Las Vegas has issued a new $2 poker chip.  It was released in September of 2014.  At this writing the chip is hard to get as the poker dealers are using them as drop chips for the table rake

Revel sold to Hard Rock?

A Canadian asset management company won a bankruptcy court auction for the failed Revel and announced plans to re-open it as a casino. Toronto-based Brookfield US Holdings LLC will pay $110 million to buy the 2-year-old casino that cost $2.4 billion to build, adding it to casinos it owns in Las Vegas (Hard Rock) and the Bahamas (Atlantis).

Atlantic City's Revel closed at 6am on September 2nd of 2014 after failing to find a buyer. Revel opened on April 2nd of 2012

Trump Plaza closes on Sept. 16

The Trump Plaza in Atlantic City closed on September 16th of 2014.  It is the fourth Atlantic City casino to close in 2014.  The Atlantic Club closed in January, the Showboat closed in August and Revel closed earlier this month

Margaritaville Biloxi closes on Sept. 15

Margaritaville Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi closed at 10pm on September 15th of 2014.  The Board of Directors of Margaritaville Casino said they have been unable to put together a deal to build a hotel, and that means Margaritaville can't compete in the Biloxi market.  According to CDC Gaming Reports, the owners weren’t able to get the hotel component built because the owners of the land wouldn’t renegotiate the land lease.  The casino opened on May 22nd of 2012.

New issue Westgate LV casino chips

The Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino has released their own rack of chips on September 5th of 2014.  All LVH chips have been removed from play.  The LVH was sold and renamed the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino on June 30th of 2014.  Westgate is considering pursuing a gaming license, but for now will keep management of the casino in the hands of the Navegante Group, which specializes in the management of casinos in transition.

On January 3rd of 2012 the Las Vegas Hilton was renamed The LVH (Las Vegas Hotel & Casino).  They lost the Hilton franchise after being foreclosed upon

Revel closes on September 2nd

Atlantic City's Revel closed at 6am on September 2nd of 2014 after failing to find a buyer in bankruptcy court.  It is the third of four Atlantic City casinos to shut down this year as the Atlantic City gambling market continues to crumble. Revel opened on April 2nd of 2012 and cost $2.4 billion.

Showboat AC closes on August 31

The Showboat Casino in Atlantic City closed on August 31st of 2014. Caesars Entertainment runs Showboat and three other Atlantic City casinos (Bally’s, Harrah’s and Caesars).  The casino was profitable but Caesars Ent. wanted to stabilize their business in Atlantic City which has been struggling. No future plans for the property have been announced. This follows the closure of their Harrah's Casino in Tunica Mississippi which sits empty now.

Las Vegas-based Showboat Inc. opened the property with 516 hotel rooms and a 60,000-square-foot casino in March 1987 at a cost of $235 million.  In 1998, Showboat Inc. was acquired by Harrah’s (now Caesars) Entertainment for $1.2 billion.

Horseshoe Baltimore opens on Aug. 26th

The Horseshoe Baltimore opened on August 26th of 2014.  It will be the fifth casino in the state of Maryland.  The casino has 122,000 square feet of gaming floor space, it will have 100 table games, 2,500 slots and a 25-table World Series of Poker-branded poker room, in addition to the Las Vegas-style amenities.  The price tag was $440 million for the casino-hotel.

SLS Las Vegas opens on August 23rd

SLS Las Vegas opened at 12am on August 23rd of 2014.  The $415 million SLS Las Vegas opened almost three years after the hotel-casino, formerly known as the Sahara, was closed.  Los Angeles-based SBE owns the resort in partnership with private equity firm Stockbridge Capital Group of San Francisco. The property has nearly a dozen restaurants and nightlife amenities from SBE’s roster of brands.

A MGM Sands $5 Las Vegas casino chip sold for $125.50 on August 20th of 2014.  The chip was issued in 1988 and retired in 1989 when the MGM sold the casino and it became The Sands once again.

Argosy Sioux City Riverboat closing?

The Argosy Sioux City Riverboat was to close July 22nd of 2014.  The Argosy license was not renewed because it doesn’t meet state gaming license requirements.  A land-based Hard Rock is slated to open in late July or August of 2014 in Sioux City to take it's place.

The high court granted an emergency stay of a district court order requiring the casino to close July 22nd.  The stay will be in effect while the state Supreme Court considers whether to hear Argosy’s appeal of the district court’s order to close.

Update 7/30/14: Argosy lost its appeal and closed on July 30th of 2014

Horizon Tahoe rebranded as Hard Rock Casino

The Horizon Casino Resort in South Lake Tahoe which closed on April 1st of 2014 for renovations will reopen in late 2014 or early 2015 as a Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

The Quad renamed the Linq Hotel & Casino

Caesars Entertainment announced that it would invest $223 million toward revamping the 2,256-room Quad Resort & Casino and rebrand it as the Linq Hotel & Casino.  The transition to the Linq brand is scheduled for completion on October 30th of 2014

LVH renamed Westgate Las Vegas

The Cromwell opens on April 21 of 2014

What used to be Bill's Gamblin' Hall opened on April 21st of 2014 as The Cromwell.  Bill's closed on February 4th of 2013 so they could begin a $185 million renovation of the hotel-casino.  This was a soft opening as all the amenities of the property were not finished.

The location was going to return as Gansevoort Las Vegas but during a routine background check of business partners, they took issue with an investor in New York-based Gansevoort.  The investor, a German businessman, is reputed to have ties to organized crime in Russia.  This was the former location of the Barbary Coast
