Tortoise Rock Casino opens March 31, 2014

The Tortoise Rock Casino in Twentynine Palms, California will celebrate its grand opening on March 31st of 2014.

Tortoise Rock Casino is owned and operated by the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians. This entertainment destination in Twentynine Palms, California is situated between the Joshua Tree National Park and the United States Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. The casino offers 30,000 square feet of gaming space, with 490 Slot Machines, 7 Table Games and live poker. The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians also owns and operates Spotlight 29 Casino in nearby Coachella, California.

Harrah's Tunica to close June 2nd of 2014

Caesars Entertainment will close its Harrah's casino in Tunica on June 2nd of 2014.  Caesars has two other casinos in Tunica that will remain open, the Horseshoe Tunica and Tunica Roadhouse Hotel and Casino.  The company has attempted to sell the casino without success but plans to continue to try to sell it up to the closing date

Boulder Club 25 cent chip sold for $250.39

A Boulder Club 25 cent Las Vegas casino chip from the 1950's sold for $250.39 on March 26th of 2014.  The casino was located at 118 East Fremont Street and was open from 1931 to 1960.  Chip was described as being in excellent condition with very slight wear with a bold hot stamp inlay

An El Cortez $5 Las Vegas casino chip issued in the 1950's sold for $9,999.99 on March 16th of 2014.  It was sold on ebay at a Buy-It-Now price.  There are only several known to exist of this rare chip

Franklin Bros. $5 chip sold for $298.11

A Franklin Bros. Casino $5 downtown Las Vegas casino chip sold for $298.11 on March 16th of 2014.  The casino was open from December of 1989 to April of 1992. The casino was located at 707 East Fremont Street which had previously been the Orbit Inn.  They only had live table games for a short while which made this fairly scarce.

Horizon Tahoe closing & renamed Park Tahoe

The Horizon Casino Resort in South Lake Tahoe is closing April 1st of 2014 and will be renamed the Park Tahoe Casino Resort. Renovation of the resort is planned starting April 1st and the Park Tahoe is expected to open before the end of the year.

Update July 18, 2014: Their plans have changed and they will reopen in late 2014 or early 2015 as a Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

A Lotus Inn $5 casino chip sold for $1,080.00 on March 7th of 2014.  The motel casino was located at 1213 Las Vegas Blvd. South which is about halfway between the north end of The Strip and Downtown.  It was open from 1973 to 1978
