The Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno, Nevada released a new design $1 casino chip on April 26th of 2013.  It is similar to the chip they released in February of 2013 except the new version has a different surface finish and they replaced all of the dark green coloring with black ink

New rack of chips at Carson Valley Inn

The Carson Valley Inn in Minden, Nevada has released a whole new rack of chips on April 23rd of 2013.  The same center inlay design was used on all denominations

Hard Rock coming to Sioux City Iowa

On April 18th the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission awarded a state gaming license to the developer of a Hard Rock-branded casino.  The $118.5 million project incorporates the historic Battery Building in downtown Sioux City.

The Hard Rock project beat out three other land-based bids.  They included Penn National Gaming, which operates the Argosy Sioux City gambling boat, which will be replaced by the Hard Rock, most likely in summer 2014.  Penn, which offered a pair of Hollywood-themed land casino proposals, becomes the first Iowa operator forced out of a market through competitive bidding since the state legalized casino gaming in 1989

The Gold Spike Casino closing on April 14th

The Gold Spike in downtown Las Vegas is closing on April 14th of 2013. The Siegel Group Nevada Inc. announced the sale to Tony Hsieh’s Downtown Project, a privately funded venture working to revive downtown Las Vegas. They had also purchased the closed Western Casino last month. The Downtown Project expects to announce redevelopment plans for the property later this year

New issue Maryland Live Casino chips

Maryland Live! in Hanover, Maryland had opened on June 6th of 2012 without any table games.  At midnight on April 10th of 2013 they opened to the public various table games and issued a full rack of casino chips.  They used the same basic design on all denominations with different color backgrounds.

The Mint $5 chip sold for $12,655.00

A $5 casino chip from The Mint in downtown Las Vegas sold for $12,655.00 on April 9th of 2013.  The chip was issued in 1984

Hollywood Casino coming to San Diego

Penn National Gaming announced plans to enter San Diego’s Indian gaming market.  The company, which is based in Wyomissing, Pa., announced an agreement to build a $360 million Hollywood-branded casino project for the Jamul Indian Village. The development, which is expected to break ground later this year, is roughly 20 miles east of downtown San Diego right off Route 94.

The project is planned as a three-story, 200,000-square-foot casino with 1,700 slot machines and 50 table games, restaurants, entertainment amenities and a parking structure.  Penn National said it hoped to open the casino 24 months after construction starts.

Penn National operates 29 casinos and race track casinos in 19 states and provinces.  The Jamul tribe has been federally recognized since the 19th century. The tribe entered into a compact with California for gaming in 1999.
